Commitment to DEI

How You Can Help

Volunteering is central to the club’s culture, and all members are encouraged to follow their interests and skills and get involved in club activities. If you are passionate about enhancing DEI, there are many ways you can help. Become familiar with the  DEI landscape and support the work of CBC members on programs and activities that contribute to these club priorities:

  • Communication
  • Talk with board members about your ideas and concerns.
  • Share events or activities in the CBC newsletter or with the Communications Committee.
  • Social programming
  • Support DEI-themed events at CBC by volunteering, planning, and attending them.
  • Serve on CBC committees.

Youth Programming

Volunteer with our youth rowing programs (CRLS, CBC Juniors, Learn to Scull). Learn more about CBC’s youth programming here:

CBC-Sponsored Youth Rowing

Competitive Juniors Programs is a selective, competitive rowing program for high school athletes focused on sculling and small boat racing, with an eye toward developing highly competitive athletes. Contact coach Abby Knight for more information and follow them on Instagram: cbcjuniors

Learn to Scull is a program designed to introduce high school boys and girls to the fundamentals and joys of sculling. Contact CBC members Mary Kay Kenney or Bill Becklean for more information.

CRLS Crew

Cambridge Rindge & Latin School: CBC provides a home for the Cambridge Rindge & Latin boys and girls crew teams, one of the largest public high school rowing programs on the Charles River and one of few public school programs that do not charge families a fee to participate. Contact CBC members Mary Kay Kenney or Seth Bauer for more information and follow them on Instagram: crlsmcrew (men’s rowing) orcrlsfalcons (CRLS athletics)

Community

  • Serve on CBC committees. Propose friends and acquaintances for membership and keep prospective members engaged throughout the membership application process, introducing them to members and inviting them as your guests to club-sponsored events.
  • Reach out to members involved in organizations that support DEI efforts to ask how you can help.
  • Contribute to DEI initiatives in rowing more broadly – locally, regionally, and nationally.
