Among all positions in all sports, coxing is unique: you’re an on-board player-coach with a set of tasks and challenges completely different from your teammates’. You have to understand psychology, physiology, rowing technique, navigation, and make instant decisions that can affect the outcome of all the work your teammates have put into training. No wonder coxing is difficult to learn—and to coach. That’s why the coxswains of CBC, including former World Champions and Olympic Gold medalists, and winners of races of every kind, have created a one-day clinic meant to put coxing in the limelight and elevate the skills of novice and experienced coxswains and their coaches. While coxing can’t be learned in a day, the clinic will cover the full range of the role. Some of the topics will be presented to the entire group; others will be presented in smaller groups for different experience levels. A special session for coaches will also be offered. Just some of the topics include: Boat handling and safety Rowing technique from the coxswain’s seat Coxing practices vs. races Building trust, empathy and motivational skills Race tactics and responsibilities Applying advanced tech to steer straighter and go faster Ask me anything sessions with: a coach & Olympic gold medalist, a former world champion & Olympic medalist, and a 6 time HOCR winner Special guest speaker will be a USRowing race official Register HERE
